WHAT I PROVIDE

Are you looking for a seamless pattern from your art, purchased clip art or business logo which can then be printed onto the fabric of your choice ?

What do you need to provide?

You need to provide me with the motifs, illustrations or clip art you wish in your seamless pattern.

You need to decide how large or small you want your motifs to be but I will provide you with three different sizes with a ruler, showing you how the different scales look.

I create repeat patterns in Adobe Photoshop. In order to prepare a seamless pattern, I require your logo, illustrations or clip art to be as separate motifs with a transparent background. These are usually png. files. I need these individual motifs to be as large as possible to accommodate your requirement.

What background colour would you like? I can help you decide.

You need to also decide how you envisage your pattern to look. For instance, do you want the individual motifs to all be going in the same direction or multi-directional?

Examples of Repeat Patterns

This pattern is called “Blueberries” by Ornate Flair and is a multi-directional pattern, meaning it has no right or wrong way of viewing and works from every direction.

This pattern is called “Strawberry Thief” by William Morris and is a one-directional pattern, meaning it only looks good when viewed from a single direction.

Licensing and Rights of Use?

You must have the correct usage rights for clip art you’ve purchased from websites such as Creative Fabrica, Etsy, Creative Market, Canva etc. Links are included so you can read about the licensing.

For instance, purchased clip art usually comes with different licence/rights of use options: a Standard License usually means for personal use only so you can use the printed fabric to sew or create items for your friends and family as long as you’re not selling the items. If your purchased clip art has a Commerical Use License, this allows you to use the clip art for products you wish to sell but it may have limitations on the number of items you can sell or not being able to use the clip art “as is” without making some changes or adding other motifs. It’s important that you take responsibility to check the licensing agreement and usage for your purchased clip art before uploading them to be made into seamless patterns.

Artisan Fabrics will not be held responsible for unknowingly creating seamless patterns and printed fabrics where the copyright has been violated by the customer who uploads the files. I take this very seriously as authentic artists and illustrators need to be compensated for their training and subsequent skill in providing you with their art.

I will not accept AI generated art or clip art to be made into seamless patterns as it’s against my morals and practice as an authentic artist. I have the right not to accept any clip art/illustrations I believe to be AI generated and may have to ask you for proof. Thank you for your understanding. If you’re not sure that you’re purchased clip art is AI generated, I can help you with this.

What happens next?

To proceed you can purchase just the jpg file of the seamless pattern or the jpg file plus your design printed onto the fabric of your choice:

If you’re unsure about what fabric to order you can read about the various fabric bases HERE. I can help you if you have questions.

Yes! I’m ready to order

What do you receive after payment?

After purchase you will be given access to a folder “just for you” via e-mail, in my private Cloud storage. This is where you need to upload all of the individual motifs for your seamless pattern. Both you and I will have access to this folder. Any notes or ideas you have for the layout, direction, scale, background colour of your pattern will very helpful.

I will then get to work on your pattern. Please allow up to 3 work days for the pattern to be completed.

The first draft of the pattern will be added to the shared folder for you to have a look at in three different scales with a ruler and you then have the option of making suggested changes or tweaks. I can offer you two revisions before acceptance is required.

Example of Patterns in 3 Scales with Ruler

After acceptance, your pattern will be sent to the printer and your fabric should arrive in 10-12 work days. You will also receive the pattern as a jpg file should you wish to have it printed again.

I know this is a little bit complicated but please reach out if you’re not sure about anything.

I’m here for you,

xx Lesley
